Beer has been brewed in Whitehaven and the surrounding
area for several hundred years, and was the staple drink of the
townsfolk in the days when there was no reliable supply of clean
drinking water. The breweries of Whitehaven, Parton, Egremont and
Cleator Moor had a proud tradition which sadly lapsed in the early
years of the twentieth century.
At The Whitehaven Brewing Company we want to revive
that proud tradition, bringing you a choice of real ales which have
not been treated with chemicals to extend their life or ‘improve’
their flavour.
‘Ennerdale Bitter’ was created at our
brewery in Croasdale, and it is the first beer to be launched in
the town for almost a hundred years.
